I have been riding SUP for about 6 years, surfing for 30+ years, and have gone through the entire evolution of SUP boards. I could not be more pleased with the 8'5" Torpedo. It surfs like a shortboard! I weigh 225 and I am 5'10" tall so I was surprised at how well it works for me as it is the smallest SUP I've ever ridden. It paddles over the whitewash when paddling out better than any SUP I have ever owned and gets into waves quickly. I think the search is over! Thanks FOCUS!
Great board, really helped me improve my ability to carve. Stable and maneuverable on waves. Highly recommend.
I have now ridden the 8.5 Torpedo about a dozen times in a variety of surf conditions. The board performs well in waist high to overhead surf. I have the board setup as a tri-fin so there is plenty of "punch" in larger/more powerful waves. I have been pleased with the board's stability when the wind conditions create chop on the surface. It also makes getting into waves easier. I really do like the rounded pin-tail shape, making for clean turns off the bottom. Prior to purchasing my Focus Board, I watched the video on their website. The board does everything promised in the video and more. The Torpedo has a great strength to weight ratio so it is light weight, yet solidly built. Really great product!
Very happy with this board. Took it out for first time yesterday morning and today. Conditions were pretty mushy--1-2ft chop, but after a little adjustment board was super stable, easy to catch waves, and on the few bigger waves with green sections was super responsive and clear will be a lot of fun. I'm 6'3, 175lbs. Jacob was also incredibly helpful--spent a lot of time giving me guidance on which board to choose. Was patient, informative, and guided me to the right gear.
8' 5" perfect size i'm 200 lbs, foot position to catch a wave is everything with this board. Once on a wave it rides great, nice turns lots of control, paddle very well in choppy water.
